Part 1 — Comparing
Short word + er · long word + more · and a few that change completely.

An elephant is ? than a mouse.
When we compare two things we use bigger. Note the double g.

A mouse is ? than a horse.
Short word, so smaller — not “more small”.

A cheetah is ? than a tortoise.
Comparing two animals: faster.

A giraffe has got a ? neck than a zebra.
Short word, so longer.

This film is ? than that one.
Interesting is a long word, so more interesting.

My dog is ? than yours at running.
Good changes completely: good → better.

Part 2 — can or can't?
Think about what each animal really does.

A bird ? fly.
Birds can fly.

A fish ? walk.
Fish have no legs, so a fish can't walk.

A kangaroo ? jump very well.
Jumping is what a kangaroo does best — it can jump.

An elephant ? climb a tree.
An elephant is far too heavy — it can't climb.

A parrot ? copy your words.
Parrots can copy what they hear.

A penguin ? fly, but it swims beautifully.
Penguins are birds, but they can't fly. They swim instead.

Part 3 — Yesterday
Yesterday means the past. Some verbs add ed, some change shape.

Yesterday we ? to the zoo.
go → went. There is no “goed”.

The monkey ? a banana.
eat → ate.

A normal verb in the past adds ed: laughed.

It ? all afternoon, so we went home.
rain + ed = rained.
